Probabilistic Response Analysis of Tall Buildings Subjected to Long Predominant Period Ground Motions

Abstract eng:
Tall buildings (20˜30 stories), built in dense urban and historical areas in Bucharest became a reality of the city. So far there is no evidence on the behavior of newly built structures (>1990) on medium-soft soil conditions, when subjected to Vrancea earthquakes. The performancebased analysis and design is a fertile format ready to incorporate at a high level of automation a reliability-based framework, accounting for a broad range of uncertainties in the seismic action and structural properties. The soil condition has considerable influence on the story seismic loads distribution as well as on the displacement demand (fig.1). For normally distributed parameters, the mean rates of crossings with positive slope over a threshold drift limit u, is given by Rice equation (1969): μ+(u)=1/2π√λ20exp(-u2/2λ0) where λ0 and λ2 are the 0th and the 2nd order moments about the mean (Vanmarcke, 2010).
