Liquefaction Index Method: Algerian Cases Studies

Abstract eng:
In case of seismic event and on sandy soil or a sensitive clay, with the presence of a ground water, the pore water pressure increases leading to the decreases of the effective stress until cancellation. This phenomenon is called the liquefaction. The soil loses its resistance and becomes similar to a liquid, this will induces collapse of buildings, landslide and reversal of structure, so the quantification of this phenomenon is of a great importance. In this study, we are interested by the estimation of the liquefaction index. Several methods do exist, one of them is the Iwasaki method which will be the aim of the present work. This method allows the determination of a global potential liquefaction index. This index let us to classify a site as a site with low, medium or high risk of liquefaction. To do this a computer programs in DELPHI was elaborated and several Algerian sites were investigated using this tool. The results are satisfying according the ones given in the literature.
