Earthquake Induced Damage Identification in Building Using Recorded Acceleration Response – A Simulated Study

Abstract eng:
In light of health monitoring of existing building just after natural disasters, quick identification of damage for rehabilitation has received considerable attention in the recent past. In this paper, an attempt has been made for identification of earthquake damage to Reinforced Concrete (R.C) framed building using System Identification (SI) technique applied in the measured building acceleration response. In the study a seismic damage localization/identification methodology has been proposed by using non-dimensional normalized trace value of covariance matrix of recorded floor acceleration response. Through numerical simulation in a five-story symmetrical/ unsymmetrical R.C. framed building the method is shown to be feasible and computationally efficient.
