A SMART CEMENTING TECHNIQUE

Abstract eng:
The ability to control the fresh-state properties of concrete in real-time provides greater control over processing and placing of concrete. This smart concreting technique is based on the principles of magnetorheology. Small amplitude oscillatory shear tests were conducted on fresh cement paste and it was found that for a given dosage of magnetic particles the rheological properties could be altered by varying the magnitude of the applied magnetic field. Such a material can be useful in applications in which controlling the fresh-state behavior of concrete is critical. Proper placement of cement slurry or concrete will enhance durability, service life, and sustainability of the structures.
